Manilva Town Hall is pressing for the reopening of the fire brigade station following the latest flooding.
Manilva Town Hall has again called for the reopening of the municipality’s fire brigade station, a long-standing demand that the governing team considers urgent following the recent episodes of heavy rain recorded in the area.
The first deputy mayor, Juan Carlos Morejón, told Cadena SER that he regretted that the Diputación de Málaga is “not even setting aside funds for drawing up the project for the new facility”, and criticised the fact that there has also been no response to the offer of plots of land made by both Manilva Town Hall and Casares Town Hall to facilitate the construction of the facilities.
The recent rainfall has caused significant incidents, with flooding in areas such as El Secadero and also around the Honda Cavada area, which, in the Town Hall’s view, once again highlights the need for an operational fire station within the municipality itself.
The governing team notes that the presence in the area of the president of the Diputación de Málaga and the president of the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium, who travelled to see first-hand the damage caused by the storm, should serve to raise awareness of the situation and of the real distances involved to the nearest station, which is currently the one in Estepona.
In this regard, Morejón stressed the “considerable distance” separating Estepona from the worst-affected points, which can delay the arrival of emergency crews. The Town Hall maintains that reopening the station would not only improve response times but would also strengthen residents’ safety in the face of increasingly frequent and intense weather events.
The Town Hall says it will continue to call on the Diputación for a definitive solution and for the inclusion of budget allocations that would allow progress on a project it considers a priority for the municipality and its surroundings.parque
