Property owner snubs Town Hall four days before eviction, leaving future of 62 families in Manilva up in the air

-

The owner of the building on calle Sarmiento fails to attend the key meeting four days before the eviction and even rejects an online meeting.

The meeting considered key to trying to halt the evictions from the 62 homes on calle Sarmiento, in Manilva, never took place. Just four days before the eviction order is due to be carried out, the owners of the properties did not show up to the meeting scheduled for today, citing bad weather as the reason for their absence.

According to those present, given the situation, the option of holding the meeting online was offered, an alternative that also failed to spark any interest from the owner, who ultimately declined any kind of meeting.

Members of the municipal corporation and a representative of the group of affected residents had been called to the meeting. They attended hoping to explore a possible moratorium or postponement of the eviction, scheduled for the coming days.

Uncertainty grows days before the eviction

The owner’s absence has been interpreted by residents as another slamming of the door on dialogue and a worsening of the uncertainty experienced by the families affected, many of them with children, elderly people or in vulnerable circumstances.

The residents’ group states that, despite the willingness shown by them and by the Town Hall to open a path to negotiation, the owners have shown no real willingness to seek a consensual solution to the conflict.

Possible appointment with the judge on Monday

According to the account given by those affected themselves, which up to the time of publication of this article has not been officially confirmed by the Town Hall, an appointment has reportedly been secured for next Monday at 10:00 with the judge overseeing the case at Court No. 1 in Estepona.

The residents have announced that they will gather at the court doors to find out first-hand the outcome of that meeting and any decision that may affect the immediate future of their homes.

Call for a humanitarian emergency

As the calendar moves towards the date set for the eviction, those affected maintain their appeal to the higher-level authorities, calling for a humanitarian emergency to be declared so that exceptional measures can be activated and dozens of families are prevented from being left on the street.

The lack of dialogue with the owner and the absence of concrete solutions keep the conflict at a critical point, with all eyes now on the courts and on a possible urgent intervention by the competent authorities.
