The families affected by the eviction from the 62 homes on calle Sarmiento, in Manilva, have been granted a last-minute reprieve. The court has decided to postpone the planned eviction just one day before it was due to take place, and has now set the new date for 24 March.
The decision is not a definitive solution to the conflict, but is due to operational reasons. According to the information given to the parties, the postponement is the result of a shortage of Guardia Civil officers, who are currently assigned to other duties related to the adverse weather affecting the area.
Another month of uncertainty
The postponement gives the families a little over a month’s leeway, but it does not resolve the underlying situation. Residents remain in a state of anguish and uncertainty, aware that the court order is still in force and that the eviction has only been postponed.
During this time, those affected say they will continue to seek institutional support and to call for the competent authorities to step in to find a housing solution that prevents dozens of families from ending up on the street.
Appeals to the authorities
The residents’ group maintains its calls for urgent measures and for coordinated action between the Town Hall, the Junta de Andalucía and other authorities to tackle the problem from a social perspective.
After weeks of protests, failed meetings and negotiations with no concrete results, those affected see the postponement as a temporary reprieve, but also as another month of tension while they wait for a definitive solution that, for the moment, has still not arrived.
