As part of the 5th Saborea Manilva Gastronomic Fair, organised by the Tourism department, headed by Eva Galindo, this year once again we will have the traditional Manilva Wine Competition, run by the Agriculture department.
According to councillor Francisco Becerra, this event showcasing our best wines will take place on Saturday 3 December from 11:30 at the plaza de La Vendimia.
For the 14th edition of this competition, the following categories and prizes have been established:
These are Dry wine, «Semi» wine and Sweet wine, with a first prize of 500 euros, a second prize of 300 euros and a third prize of 200 euros in each category.
There will also be room for the so-called Special wines, with a first prize of 500 euros.
The aim of this competition is simply to promote the excellent qualities of our wine-growing, to improve winemaking knowledge, to encourage the sale of local wines and to promote our Muscat grape.
Between 28 November and 2 December, participants in the competition will be contacted to plan a schedule of visits to the wineries.
The organisers will travel to the wineries on a previously arranged visit to collect the bottles, which will be filled and labelled on site.
One sample per category may be submitted by each winegrower, winery, society, association, group or any other form of collective; this number may rise to 3 if the sample is taken from different casks (tank, barrels or vats).
The jury, made up of qualified people from the sector, will begin its deliberations at 11:00 on Saturday 3 December. Once the winners are announced, the wines entered in the competition will be tasted by the public attending the event.
Francisco Becerra encourages wine producers to take part in this fine, traditional competition, which assesses the best wines of our land.
