On 7 July Manilva Town Hall announced the programme of activities and performances for the Full Moon Festival (Fiesta de la Luna Llena) on Sabinillas beach, organised by the Tourism department headed by Eva Galindo, for 14 July, with DJ Kiko Rivera as the main act and the face of the advertising poster.

The most critical voices were quick to speak out on the same Facebook post by the council, which in a short time became one of the most commented news items of recent months, with more than 100 comments criticising the musical choice for this edition of the Full Moon Festival, with remarks such as: «Was there nothing else to spend the money on?; 4/6 thousand quid, unbelievable! Good choice, Kiko!; If the main attraction of the fair is Kiko Rivera, you’re making the level pretty clear; Phew, glad I won’t be there; Kiko’s brain cells and the governing team’s go hand in hand..» among other so-called compliments which the council itself could not keep up with deleting, as has become the general pattern.

This newsroom has learned what Kiko Rivera’s presence will cost for the festival: the artist’s fee in Manilva will be 7,500€ + VAT, to which approximately 8.5% – 10% in author’s rights payable to the SGAE must be added.

These costs will be on top of those arising from the festival itself, such as the stage, sound, lighting and decoration, as well as the other artists who will entertain at this traditional festival, categorised as a Festival of Tourist Singularity (Fiesta de Singularidad Turística). Since it was launched back in 2011 by the then Tourism councillor Emilio López, it has undergone significant changes, but it has never been as criticised as it has been over the musical choice for this edition.
