Following the decision by the Board of Directors of the bank Unicaja, made known in recent days, to close the only branch open in the centre of Manilva, leaving hundreds of residents without in-person service, Manilva Town Hall has reacted swiftly, announcing today that it will begin the planning procedures to recover the use of the land of the Colonia Infantil de Sabinillas.

The Mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, citing the failure by Unicaja to meet its planning obligations, has instructed the technical services of the Planning department and the Legal Advisory Office to approve a Special Plan for the Colonia Infantil that responds to the town’s needs.

The aim is to resume the procedure over the failure to meet planning obligations and resolve it together with the initial approval of the Special Plan for the Colonia, in accordance with the Andalusian Land Planning Act.
This will mean a change in the management model, moving from compensation to cooperation, a method of execution in which municipal interests take priority over private ones.

This would make it possible to use the whole strip running parallel to the seafront promenade, that is, an extension of calle Duquesa de Arcos as far as Puerto de la Duquesa, as well as a connection between the Colonia itself and the Peñoncillo road.

In this way the main urban centres would be connected and Sabinillas would be offered greater mobility options, while always maintaining the children’s summer camp service that takes place every summer and introducing the possibility of using it as accommodation all year round.

Of the 70,000 m2 of the Colonia plot, 14,000 m2 would be green space, 20,000 m2 would be seafront promenade and pedestrian open areas, and a further 14,000 m2 would be roads for vehicle traffic.
