Yesterday, Saturday 29 May, a complaint was filed with the National Police in Estepona following a robbery at around 12:30 at the Día supermarket in the town, where the modus operandi suggests that the incident had been planned in advance and that the perpetrators were waiting for a victim.
An 83-year-old woman accompanied by her daughter did their shopping at the Día supermarket and, when paying by card, noticed a strange movement from a man who came too close, although at first they did not pay much attention to it. They put the shopping in the car and, while the woman who has filed the complaint stayed in the car, her daughter went to return the trolley, where she met a heavily built woman with long blonde hair, aged between 40 and 50 and probably Spanish, who began talking to her, asking her how much the trolley cost, whether she could give her change, and a few questions that made little sense.
Her intention was to distract her, while another man of about 50, dark-skinned, stocky, with short hair and a Romanian accent, knocked on the window of the car where the mother was waiting and persuaded her to get out of the car by telling her that the rear window was damaged, which led the woman to get out to check it.
On arriving home, the family realised that her purse was missing and began to understand everything that had happened. They quickly went to the bank to cancel the cards, but found that it was too late and that the alleged thieves had gone straight to a cash machine and withdrawn €1,180 in two transactions, one of €200 and the other of €980.
