The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, accompanied by the head of the Social Affairs area, Pilar Zúñiga, and the Urban Planning manager, Oliver Roales, attended the Territorial Delegation of Equality, Social Policies and Conciliation in Málaga for an important meeting regarding the request to build a care home for the elderly.
At this meeting, the municipal delegation put up to seven proposals for social and healthcare plots on the table as possible locations for the care home.
The delegate in charge, Dolores Fernández Trinidad, gave a negative response to the Town Hall’s wish, as the Junta de Andalucía currently has no aid or funding available.
The urgent need for Manilva to have a service of this kind is reflected in the figures themselves, as approximately 16% of the population is over 65: specifically, 2,389 people aged 65 to 79 and 505 residents aged 80 to 105 are registered.
The mayor concluded by saying: «Although we have not received the response we wanted, the Town Hall will look for every possible avenue and alternative to respond to our residents»,
