Unemployment figures continue to rise in Manilva, once again reaching the highest number of people out of work in the history of our town. This historic figure was already reached last month, and in December there were 59 more people unemployed, bringing the total to 1,757, made up of 745 men and 1,012 women, figures that the municipality has never had since records began.
The coronavirus crisis continues to hit hard in towns closely tied to hospitality and the tourism sector, which were forced to close their premises after the State of Alarm was declared, and therefore to halt hiring. Currently, the restrictions on opening hours in shops, especially in hospitality, are preventing a recovery in employment in the sector.
These figures show that the €200,000 in aid that Manilva Town Hall boasts of for the hospitality sector and shops is not enough or has not been managed properly to generate employment, which continues on the same downward trend.
Figures for the last year:
- December 2020: 1,757 +59 unemployed (Historic record)
- November 2020: 1,698 +85 unemployed
- October 2020: 1,613 +105 unemployed
- September 2020: 1,508 +127 unemployed
- August 2020: 1,381 +30 unemployed
- July 2020: 1,351 -219 unemployed
- June 2020: 1,570 -45 unemployed
- May 2020: 1,615 Unchanged
- April 2020: 1,615 +162 unemployed
- March 2020: 1,453 +137 unemployed
- February 2020: 1,316 -9 unemployed
- January 2020: 1,325 +1 unemployed
- December 2019: 1,324 +35 unemployed
- November 2019: 1,289 +69 unemployed
- October 2019: 1,220 +151 unemployed
As for hiring, this month there was a monthly fall of 20.99%, with 192 new employment contracts, 131 for men and 61 for women, of which 71 were in the construction sector, 27 in hospitality, which despite everything continues to generate hiring, and 22 in the sector of vehicle and motorcycle repair and trade.
The uncertainty affecting all sectors means that companies have once again opted this month for temporary contracts: this month there were no conversions to permanent contracts, but there were 24 new contracts of a permanent nature.
By age group, those under 25 had the lowest number of new contracts, 18, compared with 95 new contracts for people aged between 25 and 44 and 73 contracts for people over 45.
