As part of Operation Costala, the Guardia Civil has solved the kidnapping of a person on 12 January in Mijas (Málaga), who was seriously injured after being shot with a firearm.

The Guardia Civil was alerted to the presence of three people travelling in a vehicle, who got out and beat up another individual in a street in La Cala de Mijas, before putting him in the vehicle and leaving the area at high speed.

The officers immediately launched an investigation to establish the whereabouts of this person, although a few hours later an individual with the same physical characteristics turned up in Manilva (Málaga) with multiple bruises on his body and a bullet wound in one of his arms.

The victim was admitted to a hospital, where he had to undergo surgery as a result of the serious injuries he had sustained.

The victim’s statement has corroborated the initial information received, confirming that his captors demanded payment of 100.000 euros as an essential condition for his release and that at one point he managed to flee, at which moment he was shot.

After numerous enquiries, the investigators managed to locate the house in Manilva where the kidnapping took place and found evidence of the crimes committed, including the bullet fired at the victim.

From that point on, a phase began to identify the people who had been involved in the incident. Those involved are part of an alleged criminal organisation dedicated to drug trafficking.

The arrests took place in the Málaga towns of Mijas, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and also in Algeciras and Madrid.

During the searches, the Guardia Civil seized a loaded firearm whose calibre matched the projectile recovered at the house in Manilva, 100.000 euros in counterfeit notes and a scanner for detecting electronic devices. The counterfeit money found was payment for a possible drug deal that fell through between the perpetrators and the victim, which is why the former demanded that the victim pay 100.000 euros as a condition for his release.

The eight detainees are considered to be the perpetrators of the alleged offences of belonging to a criminal organisation, unlawful detention, causing injuries and illegal possession of weapons.

The investigation was carried out by officers from the Organic Judicial Police Unit of Málaga and the Mijas Main Station, supported by the Rapid Action Group (G.A.R.).
