Manilva is just 15 positive cases away from crossing the threshold set by the Junta de Andalucía for moving into Level 4, grade 2, which applies to every municipality in Andalucía that reaches an active incidence of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days.
In Manilva’s case, that figure corresponds to a total of 156 active cases, 15 more than the current number. Given the latest figures and the upward trend of recent days, with 22 new cases on Friday and 47 this Monday, everything suggests that the threshold will be passed within the next few hours. But what does the change of grade mean? We explain it below:
In addition to the perimeter closure of the municipality, meaning nobody may enter or leave without a justified reason, there must be a general closure of all establishments and activities, except those considered essential, such as retail shops selling food, drinks and basic necessities; health centres, services and establishments; social and social-healthcare services; pharmacies, parapharmacies, veterinary clinics, food markets, opticians and orthopaedic goods, hygiene products, professional and financial services; newsagents, bookshops and stationers, florists, fuel sales, mechanics’ workshops, repair services and building materials, hardware shops, tobacconists, technology equipment, pet food, home delivery services, dry cleaners, launderettes, hairdressers, domestic workers and street markets.
Conventional sports facilities and sports centres for physical activity that is not outdoors must also close, except those used for official sporting activity, whether non-professional or professional.
Non-federated sports competitions and events of any age category are suspended, as are federated ones other than the senior category.
The catering sector must close, except for home delivery services, the collection of food for social or charitable purposes, restaurants in tourist accommodation for the exclusive use of their guests, those within healthcare, social-healthcare and social centres and services, school canteens and canteens providing a social service, catering services in training centres and in workplaces for the use of employees, and those located in fuel supply centres.
Likewise, visits to residential care homes for older people are suspended without exception, as are in-person conferences, talks, business and professional meetings, seminars and similar events. Public shows and recreational and cultural activities may not be held in person either.
The closure will also affect gaming and gambling establishments, museums, cinemas, theatres, peñas, and gastronomic, cultural or recreational associations.
These measures are in addition to the general ones adopted by the Junta de Andalucía last Friday, which include gatherings of a maximum of four people and the perimeter closure of Andalucía and its eight provinces.
This possible halt to local commerce, already severely weakened, will hit employment again, with unemployment figures in the municipality already at record levels.
The change of level will not be immediate. The Territorial Committee for High-Impact Public Health Alerts will take a decision, which will then be published in the BOJA (the Andalusian official gazette), setting out the date from which the new restrictions will apply.
