As planned, this morning the formal ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the extension works at the San Luis de Sabinillas school took place.
Attending the school were the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez; the Delegate for Education, Mercedes García Paine; members of the governing team; a representative of Izquierda Unida in the person of María José Huertas; and the educational community, joined by the heads of the Pablo Picasso and Maicandil schools and the Instituto Las Viñas, as well as parents.
The mayor thanked the delegate for her visit and for the good understanding between the administrations, and then explained the pressing need to build a second secondary school in the town, as the current one is overcrowded.
García Paine’s response was positive, so in addition to the laying of the foundation stone, Manilva has received one of the most eagerly awaited pieces of news in the field of education. Next week, provincial technicians will visit to assess the various plots of land that the Town Hall will make available to build a new school.
The councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, also addressed those present, speaking about what these advances mean for local families and for the young students of our town.
Daniel Muñoz, as councillor for Education, spoke in similar terms to the local media, saying he is very pleased to take part in this type of event, which has such an impact on the new generations and their development.
After the architect from the Town Hall presented the project, the plans and the day’s newspapers were placed in a container and buried as a good luck gesture and to mark the start of the works.
It should be remembered that the municipal budget allocated for these works is 631.151,51 €.
