The Regional Ministry of Development, Infrastructure and Land Planning of the Junta de Andalucía will begin installing 68 new bus shelters in 48 Andalusian municipalities at the end of January. Manilva is not among them. The shelters will provide protection, cover and a place to wait for users. The work has been awarded to Globalia Urbanismo Integral for €386,159 and forms part of the plan to improve and modernise public transport facilities and access.

These new shelters, which in some cases will replace existing ones that are now obsolete, form part of the Regional Ministry of Development’s aim to improve the quality of passenger road transport services. The shelters are fitted with a protective roof and side panels to shelter users while they wait for the bus to arrive, so their installation represents a considerable improvement.

This street furniture is currently being manufactured and will then be installed either at stops in built-up areas within towns and villages, or close to them, or in rural locations, excluding areas under the responsibility of the Metropolitan Transport Consortia. The work also includes a series of minor works, such as widening pavements, laying concrete foundation slabs in rural areas and removing existing shelters, which will guarantee both accessibility and user safety.

This plan to install new shelters, which is 80% funded by European ERDF funds, will be completed by summer. The new shelters have been allocated according to the requests received by the provincial offices of the Regional Ministry of Development, mainly from town halls. They will be distributed across 48 municipalities as follows:

Almería. Ten new shelters are planned: six in Zurgena and one each in Albanchez, Tabernas, Tíjola and Chercos.

Cádiz. Five shelters will be installed in Barbate and one each in San José del Valle, Alcalá del Valle and Vejer de la Frontera.

Córdoba. New shelters will also be installed in Lucena, Fuente Obejuna, Añora, Villanueva de Córdoba and Pedroche.

Granada. Eight new structures are planned in this province, spread across the same number of municipalities: Moraleda de Zafayona, Arenas del Rey, Gualchos, Albondón, Alpujarra de la Sierra, Castril, Ujigar and Pórtugos.

Huelva. The request for 13 new shelters will be met. Two will go to Almonaster la Real and the rest will be distributed across Alájar, Calañas, Encinasola, El Granado, Higuera de la Sierra, Jabugo, Manzanilla, Paymogo, Sanlúcar del Guadiana, Villalba del Alcor and Villanueva de los Castillejos.

Jaén. Two shelters are planned for Jódar.

Málaga. The municipalities of Moclinejo, Periana and Vélez-Málaga will each have three new structures; Cuevas de San Marcos and Guaro will have two each, and Monda, Yunquera and Casarabonela one each. In total there will be 16 shelters.

Seville. Six new shelters will be installed. Two will be placed in Lebrija and the remaining four will be distributed across Aguadulce, Arahal, El Pedroso and El Ronquillo.
