The Environment department of Manilva Town Hall, headed by councillor Laura López, is organising a second environmental education workshop on nest boxes this Saturday, 27 March.
The activity will begin with an introductory talk on nest boxes and insectivorous birds.
Next, we will build the boxes, assembling the pre-prepared wooden pieces and filling each box with dry grass. Finally, we will line them with natural materials gathered in the area (dry leaves and branches, pieces of tree bark…), so that each wooden box becomes a genuine natural nest, blended into its surroundings.
Each young participant will be able to take their nest box home and place it in a spot of their choosing. At this new workshop, we will not put the nest boxes up in the trees, as we did at the first workshop, because some thoughtless person took down and carried off many of the nest boxes that the group of children had built with such enthusiasm.
This programme of environmental education activities aims to achieve three main objectives:
– To educate the children of the municipality in environmental values.
– To raise awareness of the landscape, fauna and flora of our municipal area and its surroundings.
– To develop fun, healthy outdoor activities.
The activity will again take place in the La Peñuela rural park, from 10:00 until approximately 12:00.
It is a free activity, aimed at children under 12.
Prior registration is required, as places are limited. Wearing a face mask is compulsory.
