The commercial sector, especially hospitality, is considerably angered after Manilva Town Hall published a press release with the supposed statistics for Holy Week, a week in which Sabinillas’ main beaches were dirtier than ever, which has prompted considerable criticism, with hoteliers even calling during that week for the resignation of the Beaches councillor Eva Galindo, and in which many businesses were closed because of the works on the Sabinillas seafront promenade.

According to the statement, Manilva received around 20,000 visitors in April, 47.42% more than in the same period of 2021. According to the Tourism councillor Eva Galindo, this represents outstanding growth and an approximate spend in the municipality of more than 900,000€ during April, which she says has helped to revive all local businesses, such as hospitality and catering.

Mayor Mario Jiménez did not want to miss the opportunity to share his satisfaction at seeing these tourism results, adding that he is convinced that a full economic recovery will become a reality very soon.

Some traders say they feel ashamed of this publication given the lack of empathy towards those who have had to stay closed, and one even offers the mayor his cash register so that he can see the reality of this «fabulous Holy Week».
