The judge has ordered the provisional release of the two accused, aged 21 and 23 and of Maghrebi origin, while the investigation continues into the events that took place last September on the beach at Sabinillas.
The judicial authority has ordered the release of the two young men arrested by the Guardia Civil as alleged perpetrators of a sexual assault committed by means of chemical submission in the town of Manilva. Although both individuals, aged 21 and 23, have been released after appearing before the court, they remain linked to the case as suspects under investigation.
The case dates back to 30 September, when the victim reported having woken up naked, semi-conscious and disoriented on the beach at Sabinillas. The woman showed obvious signs of violence and was extremely nervous and anxious, so she was attended to immediately by officers from the Guardia Civil’s Women and Minors Team (Emume) and taken to a hospital.
The investigators’ enquiries, which included exhaustive analyses and the taking of statements, indicated that the victim was in a situation of vulnerability because her will had been overridden by chemical substances.
Thanks to the work carried out, officers were able to identify the alleged attackers. After obtaining court authorisation, searches were carried out at the suspects’ homes, where the clothes they were wearing on the day of the events were found. This led to the arrest of the two main suspects, as well as two other people accused of covering up the crime.
Despite the seriousness of the offences alleged, and after being brought before the judge of Investigating Court number 3 of Estepona, the two main defendants have been released while the investigation of the case continues. Further judicial action or charges are not ruled out as the investigation progresses.
