The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, speaking in defence of the institution and of municipal employees, has publicly clarified that Manilva Town Hall has not given up any grant. On the contrary, it applies for each and every one of the funds offered by supramunicipal bodies.
Regarding the grant for the Senda Litoral (coastal path), from Arroyo Martagina to the Playa Paraíso housing development, considered at the Local Government Board meeting of 23 December 2020, file no. 2020/11110, he said that, given that the original construction project drawn up by the Provincial Council of Málaga contained technical errors that invalidated its execution, despite having been checked by the Project Supervision Office and approved by that supramunicipal body, and given the report stating that proceeding with the tender under the original conditions would cause considerable harm to the municipal coffers, it was resolved to order the repayment to the Provincial Council of the grant in the part corresponding to its funding.
According to the Manilva mayor, not only has the grant not been lost, but a larger amount than the original €161.824,90 has been awarded, rising to €281.413,91, that is, €119.589,01 more, thanks to municipal efforts.
The tender will therefore begin within ten to fifteen days for its award.
Therefore, «we have neither lost the grant nor given up anything at all. What is more, the interest will be compensated, acknowledging that Manilva Town Hall has not made any error», he said.
Referring to grants, Jiménez also wished to stress that: «since I became mayor we have applied for each and every grant beneficial to our municipality, and I give as an example the one received, of more than a million euros, from the Education and Training department of the Junta de Andalucía for the training courses with professional certificates, making us one of the very few towns in the autonomous community to have taken this on, in order to offer residents better job opportunities».
Finally, the local mayor insisted on asking for «respect for the institution we represent and for its employees, and just as there is freedom of the press and of expression, there must also be rigour in the news and information must be checked», he concluded.
