Although more and more residents are recycling correctly and placing their waste in the right containers, doubts can sometimes arise about certain packaging which, either because of its composition or its appearance, leaves us wondering which container is the right one for recycling it.
To help solve this problem, Ecoembes has created the Intelligent Recycling Assistant, A.I.R-e, a chatbot designed to give immediate answers to all residents’ questions and queries about recycling, and Manilva WebSite is making it available to all residents who wish to use it.
Created by TheCircularLab, Ecoembes’ circular economy innovation centre, and developed by Accenture, A.I.R-e uses Artificial Intelligence to provide interactive, instant information on various questions relating to packaging recycling, such as which container each item of packaging should go in and what material it is made of, as well as on the recycling of other types of waste, such as furniture, household items and textiles.
A.I.R-e works through voice and text recognition, but the real revolution of this chatbot comes from images, as it is able to identify, from photographs, the type of waste the user is unsure about. Residents can therefore send it pictures of items they want to recycle but are not sure where to dispose of, and receive an immediate response from A.I.R-e. This assistant uses machine learning techniques, so it builds up its database as it receives queries.
Does dirty kitchen paper go in the blue container? Is the yellow one the place to throw a plastic toy? Was I right to put the pieces of that vase I dropped on the floor in the container?
You have surely asked yourself questions like these on more than one occasion when taking your waste to the bin or the container, and many times you have surely not known the right option.
Making a query to ‘AIR-e‘ is very simple. Just click on the icon at the bottom right of our website to start the assistant.
