One of the most notable items debated at this morning’s ordinary council meeting was the approval of the preliminary draft of the Special Plan for the Interior Reform of execution unit SA-3 «Colonia Infantil».

The drafting of this document stems from the need to establish a new layout because of the obsolescence of the area and the need to change the existing uses on the current Colonia Infantil site in Sabinillas, in order to adapt it, provide it with facilities and introduce new complementary uses for this area.
One of the aims of the PGOU (General Urban Planning Plan) is to ensure that the public can access and enjoy these spaces.

The aim of this project is to renew the urban development of the whole area, also incorporating new uses such as hotel or tertiary.

For the governing team, there is a pressing need to open up all of these public facilities to the existing town, such as the open areas that are currently only for private enjoyment and are used almost exclusively in the summer season.

The plan also seeks to create a road and pedestrian link along this whole stretch of coast, joining Sabinillas and Puerto de la Duquesa.

The colony area is also very close to the main road through the town, so it is well connected to one of the main arteries of the Costa del Sol. For this reason, a roundabout is proposed on the A7, which would also connect the Maicandil area.

From this new roundabout, a large boulevard is laid out as the main axis, which will also serve as a green link to the seafront promenade.

Inside these blocks, pedestrian routes are created alongside the green areas, which are redesigned and reorganised to integrate them into the town, open them up to public use and link them with the open areas of the seafront promenade.

All in all, we are talking about more than 36,000 m2 of open space and 2,200 m2 of public facilities.

In addition, 233 parking spaces are created on the roads and in 2 car parks, which is above the standard. There are also 206 underground parking spaces to be built beneath the boulevard, which would be accessed from the extension of calle Duquesa de Arcos and from the entrance via the roundabout.
