Following the collaboration agreement reached between the Bishopric and Manilva Town Hall, remodelling work began a few weeks ago at the Parroquia San Luis.
This morning, the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, councillor Francisco Becerra, the parish priest, José Antonio Melgar, the head of the brotherhood of Cristo del Amor y Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Sabinillas, Ana Najas, and technicians working on the project met at the church to inspect the work carried out.
The roof of the church has been renovated. It was badly deteriorated by the passing of the years and had damp problems, which put the interior of the church and the statues themselves at risk.
Specifically, the roof has been waterproofed and the existing roof timbers have been removed and replaced with white-finished wooden beams, which give the church more light and a greater sense of space.
The work will be completed on 8 April, which guarantees that the church can be used during Holy Week.
The mayor, as he had already announced publicly, once again highlighted the willingness of all parties within the cultural heritage recovery programme, which will improve both the roof of this building and the altarpiece of the Iglesia Santa Ana in Manilva.
For the Culture councillor, Alba Jiménez, this work was a priority, so that, in addition to restoring historic monuments, the town now has a church that is much better equipped with new infrastructure.
