The Diputación is working with Manilva Town Hall on the remodelling of the Sabinillas seafront promenade. The works include improving the infrastructure and paving, as well as installing new street lamps and renewing the street furniture and the wall separating the promenade from the beach.
Francisco Oblaré explains that the provincial institution has drawn up the project and will co-finance the works, which will be divided into three phases, with one million euros.
The Diputación de Málaga is working with Manilva Town Hall on the project to remodel and improve the Sabinillas seafront promenade, which has been divided into three phases and will allow the repair and renewal of the infrastructure and paving along a stretch of around 600 metres of the promenade. The provincial institution has drawn up the projects and will co-finance the works with one million euros from the Plan de Asistencia y Cooperación (Assistance and Cooperation Plan).
The councillor for Development and Infrastructure, Francisco Oblaré, explained that technicians from the Diputación’s Roads and Works service drew up the projects for the first two phases, which Manilva Town Hall has already awarded, and that the third phase of the project is currently being drawn up.
Oblaré pointed out that the aim is a comprehensive remodelling of the promenade, covering the paving as well as the existing urban services and street furniture, in response to the need raised by the Town Hall to improve the promenade given its age of more than 20 years.
The project includes repairing the paving and giving the promenade a new look, as well as renewing the telecommunications, drinking water supply and sewerage networks, and installing new rainwater drainage networks. The energy efficiency of the street lighting infrastructure will also be improved, and the street furniture and the wall separating the promenade from the beach will be renewed.
Design of the promenade
It will be a pedestrian promenade with occasional use by light or heavy vehicles (such as cleaning vehicles, lorries and excavators), as access to the beach may at times be necessary to maintain an existing sewer, as well as for cleaning and hosing down the promenade.
Spaces for cultural activities will also be created in the wider areas, equipped with the necessary infrastructure. The project also aims to provide stable infrastructure for the whole row of homes and hospitality businesses located in the commercial ground floors of the buildings facing the sea.
The design of the promenade has taken into account that it must be an element that integrates the coastal environment, making it easier for users to get around and guaranteeing access to the sea.
The paving will be laid with prefabricated concrete slabs of various sizes and shades, resembling a wave breaking on the beach. Along the edge of the promenade where it meets the sand, prefabricated concrete benches will be installed alternating with stainless steel railings, which will make the edge more permeable, and the current street lamps will be replaced with more energy-efficient ones.
Three phases
The works will be carried out in three phases. The first covers the remodelling of the street that leads to the plaza de Neptuno from calle Duquesa de Arcos and plaza Costa del Sol, with a completion period of four months. It has been awarded for 123,621 euros, of which the Diputación will contribute 50,000 euros from the 2020 Provincial Assistance and Cooperation Plan and Manilva Town Hall will cover the rest.
The second phase affects a stretch of around 350 metres of the promenade and the works have been awarded for 1,051,540.82 euros, of which 562,500 euros will be contributed through the 2021 Assistance and Cooperation Plan (450,000 euros from the Diputación and 112,500 euros from Manilva Town Hall) and the rest from the Town Hall’s own funds.
The third phase of the project is currently being drawn up and has an estimated budget of 900,000 euros, of which around 600,000 euros will be financed through the 2022 Assistance and Cooperation Plan and the rest from Manilva Town Hall’s own funds.
