The parish church of San Luis de Sabinillas hosted yesterday the presentation of the official poster in honour of the Virgen del Carmen. The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and councillors Alba Jiménez (Culture), Laura López (Environment) and Diego José Jiménez (Public Works) attended the event.
She is the patron saint of sailors and one of the most venerated images in our municipality, and her feast day will be celebrated on 16 July.
The work was created by Juan Galeote-Arte Sacro. He used pastel sticks and pencils on special reinforced 360-gram paper, with dimensions of 70x50cm.
The aim was to maintain a uniform range of tones, with light blues and white predominating, complemented by earth tones and with the typography in Carmelite brown.
In this artistic representation, the Virgen del Carmen with the Christ Child can be seen at the top, while in the bottom right-hand corner is Francisco Rodríguez Jiménez, Teniente Hermano Mayor (Deputy Head) of the Brotherhood, with the sea and a beached boat in the background.
The Mass, which was special and moving, was held in tribute to Francisco Rodríguez Jiménez himself for his years of dedication to the Hermandad Virgen del Carmen y San Luis de Sabinillas.
