Manilva, along with other towns in the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga, will be under an orange warning tomorrow, Monday, due to a significant risk of rain, according to the State Meteorological Agency, which informed Emergencias 112 Andalucía.
The orange level will begin at 00:00 tomorrow, Monday, and will affect the Strait area until 6:00 in the morning, while in Málaga it will extend until 12:00 in Sol, Guadalhorce and Axarquía.
From today, Sunday, AEMET is also issuing a yellow warning for the same weather phenomenon across the whole province of Cádiz from 21:00 (Campiña, Litoral, Estrecho and Grazalema), as well as tomorrow in the inland areas of Málaga around Ronda and Antequera.
Self-protection advice
In light of the rain warnings, the service attached to the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior of the Junta recommends taking extra care and adopting some self-protection guidelines that help prevent risks and ensure everyone’s safety.
It is preferable to avoid travelling by road. If travel is essential, it is important to check the condition of the roads you will be using before setting out, and once on the way to follow the instructions on information signs and from officers of the authorities, as well as keeping informed via the radio of the recommendations of the authorities and the relevant services.
In the rain, extra care must be taken at the wheel, speed reduced and the safe distance increased. Never cross a flooded area or one with standing water. If you have crossed a waterlogged area for any reason, you should then test the brakes with light presses to check that they work. If you are also caught out by a sudden surge of water while in the vehicle, you must be ready to abandon it immediately once the water rises above the wheel axle.
You should also not camp or park near riverbeds, even if they are dry, to avoid being caught out by a sudden rise in water.
In the countryside during a storm, isolated or solitary trees and rocks attract lightning and should therefore be avoided, as should metal objects. In coastal areas during rough seas, you should avoid walking along promenades, breakwaters and viewpoints. The swell can suddenly sweep you out to sea.
112 recommends staying calm and following information from official sources on social media and in the media to avoid rumours and false information, and in an emergency, calling 112, a service available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
