Unemployment figures continue to rise in Manilva, once again reaching the highest number of people out of work in the history of our town. This historic figure was already reached last December, and in January a further increase of 74 people brings the total to 1,831 unemployed, 786 men and 1,045 women, figures that the municipality has never seen since records began. The increase in the number of people out of work since January last year is 506.
The coronavirus crisis continues to hit hard in towns closely linked to hospitality and the tourism sector, which were forced to close their businesses after the State of Alarm was declared, halting recruitment as a result. This situation was repeated last week with the level 4 grade 2 restrictions decreed by the Junta de Andalucía. The data will be reflected next month and will in all likelihood push these numbers up further.
As for hiring, this month there was a monthly fall of -19.27%, with 155 new employment contracts, 95 for men and 60 for women. Of these, 51 were in the construction sector, 20 in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, and 17 in administrative and support services.
The uncertainty affecting all sectors means that companies have opted, once again this month, for temporary contracts. This month there were no conversions to permanent contracts, but there were 24 new contracts of a permanent nature.
Among the age groups, those under 25 had the fewest contracts, with 18, compared with 75 new contracts for people aged between 25 and 44 and 62 contracts for people over 45.
