At about midnight a fire broke out on Sabinillas beach itself, in what appears to have been a failed attempt to launch a large narco boat into the sea.

Everything suggests the operation was well organised, as at about 22:00 another fire broke out in the area of the Hedionda baths. This is a modus operandi used by drug trafficking gangs, and one we are beginning to get used to, to distract the security forces while the criminal activity is carried out.

On this occasion, the operation fell apart when the Toyota Land Cruiser that was towing the narco boat to launch it into the sea, via the marked channel in the Noria area, lost traction shortly before reaching the water. In a desperate attempt, another 4×4 tried to push the whole rig (narco boat and Land Cruiser) from behind to achieve the goal, and it also became stuck in the sand on the beach.

Seeing themselves trapped, they decided to set fire to the rig and flee the scene.

Firefighters, who had come from putting out the fire at La Hedionda, arrived quickly, along with Civil Protection, Local Police and Guardia Civil.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. We recall that on 19 December another 4×4 with a large trailer was found on the shore in the same spot, which had allegedly also been used to launch a narco boat into the sea and was unable to return.
