Ecovidrio’s Management Technician for Eastern Andalusia and Cádiz, Iván González Castro, has contacted Manilva Town Hall to officially announce that our town has met the Ecovidrio challenge, thanks to a 5% increase in the amount of glass recycled in July and August compared with 2020, as part of the competition promoted in connection with the Movimiento Banderas Verdes (Green Flags Movement).
As a result, the Town Hall will be presented with the «Iglú Verde» (Green Igloo) award for reaching the target. Thanks to the teamwork of the Town Hall, residents and hospitality businesses, our municipality has taken a step further in the transition towards a circular economy and in the fight against climate change, and has become an example of green recovery in the hospitality sector.
Thanks to the recycling of glass containers, this summer the Andalusian municipalities taking part in the challenge have managed to prevent the emission of more than 4,630 tonnes of CO2 into the environment, equivalent to taking more than 2,160 vehicles off the road for a year.
Cleaning department councillor Paqui López said she was pleased with the award and wanted to share it publicly with residents: «This recognition is for each and every person who contributes to recycling and to looking after our environment, as it would be impossible to achieve without them,» she said.
