The culture department, headed by councillor Alba Jiménez, has announced that the El Castillo Archaeological Site can now be visited, following the enhancement of this area of our municipality.
This area, always taking the original structure as a reference, has been cleaned up and the walls have been shored up to reinforce them. The unpaved areas have been covered with a bed of gravel in different colours depending on the zone and period, to enrich and make the visit easier.
An elevated walkway has also been installed, allowing visitors to enjoy the remains while protecting them. Along the route there are information panels about the different areas of the site: the villa, the factory warehouses, the area of basins, the remains of water pipes and the wells.
A few days ago, pupils from local schools were the first to take a guided tour of this area, which is part of the local heritage and dates from Roman times. On one of these visits they were accompanied by Manilva’s mayor, Mario Jiménez, who said he was pleased that Manilva is adding these 2,000-year-old Roman ruins to its tourist offer.
Visits can be made from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00; on Saturdays the site can be visited from 11:00 to 13:00.
To book an appointment for the guided tours, call 678 921 031 or 619 726 599.
