The Urban Solid Waste (RSU) delegate of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol (Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental), Juan Luis Villalón, and the delegate of the Complejo Ambiental Costa del Sol, Óscar Naranjo, have today presented the environmental information portal Costadelsol.eco, a platform that aims to become the main source of environmental information on the Costa del Sol and where Manilva has its own section.

The aims of Costadelsol.eco are to provide detailed and transparent information on the Complejo Ambiental Costa del Sol, which is run by Urbaser; to gather all the environmental information from the 11 municipalities in the association; and to give residents specific, clear information so that recycling is easy and convenient for them.

Each of the 11 municipalities has its own page with environmental news and waste collection data.

Villalón explained that, following the renewal of the concession for the Complex to Urbaser, «it has been agreed to commit to communication and environmental education, and to strengthen these areas, because we believe that residents should know where their taxes go, what is done with their rubbish, how it is recycled and how they can help in the fight against climate change from their homes through responsible consumption».

The portal offers the latest environmental news from the region. One of its most attractive features is that each municipality in the association has its own page, where you can find: environmental news, environmental information about the town, and contact details for the environment, cleaning or waste department of its town hall and of the association.

And the most interesting section is the waste data for each municipality. Here residents will find up-to-date information on urban solid waste, lightweight packaging, paper and cardboard, and glass for the last quarter; the annual data for the previous year; and a historical record of that data, by month, going back to 2015.

«With this we want any resident, journalist, institution or organisation that wants reliable, specific data on the waste of each of the 11 municipalities to have easy and straightforward access to it», said Villalón.

The Complejo Ambiental Costa del Sol has also been a pioneer in creating a lost property department, which is also featured on Costadelsol.eco. Through this section, anyone who thinks they have lost a valuable item in their rubbish bags can submit an online request to try to locate it.

Óscar Naranjo stressed that «Costadelsol.eco is a living, active portal that is updated daily; the content will be expanded and renewed, new sections will be added, and it will be present on the main social media networks to stay in constant contact with the public. We will begin on Facebook and will soon also be on Instagram and Twitter». He added that this portal is the result of the awareness-raising work that has inspired the Complejo Ambiental Costa del Sol since it began.

Finally, he emphasised that «the challenge we have set ourselves is for Costadelsol.eco to be the channel and the voice for the environmental activities and initiatives of the municipalities of the Costa del Sol, and an open door to the Complejo Ambiental Costa del Sol».
