The Environment department of Manilva Town Hall, headed by councillor Laura López, organised an activity this morning for the preservation of our natural surroundings.

The initiative has the support of Marinas del Mediterráneo, which paid for the trees, and the collaboration of pupils from Colegio Maicandil. They travelled to the area next to the town’s Canine park, located in the upper part of Pueblo Mexicano, to complete an Interactive Teaching Unit (UDI) on vegetable gardens, which comes to an end with this planting.

Over the course of the morning the pupils planted 25 almond trees.
As councillor Laura López pointed out, it is very important to involve younger generations in caring for the environment, and also in regenerating green spaces, as this activity will create a natural area that all residents of Manilva will be able to enjoy in the future.

The operations director of Marinas del Mediterráneo, Alejandro Suanes, said he was delighted that the company can collaborate with the people of Manilva in an initiative as worthwhile as caring for the environment, thereby minimising the carbon footprint produced by the Puerto de la Duquesa. The activity will be repeated on several occasions over the next 5 years, with the aim of completely eliminating the carbon footprint of the port facility.

Also attending the activity were the Education councillor, Daniel Muñoz, councillors Marcos Ruiz and Manolo Gil, and the mayor, Mario Jiménez, who said that this is the way forward, always showing respect and care for the natural environment and teaching the youngest children through an education geared towards environmental conservation.

The Environment department will continue to plan further initiatives that benefit our town in this respect.
