The first meeting of the Board of the Asociación de Empresarios ACHEAM (business association) has been held with the aim of getting it fully up and running and setting out the various concerns of the town’s business and productive sector. One thing on which all those present unanimously agreed was «the need to launch and officially present this association», something that will take place shortly, so that all those interested can join or simply set out their needs, making room for «all ideas that can help the prosperity and benefit of Local Commerce as a whole».
One of the first proposals that ACHEAM wants to put to the local Town Hall will be the request for «the introduction of a 12/7 (12 hours of uninterrupted work for 7 days a week), respecting of course workers’ hours but organising different work shifts that would allow the work on the Paseo Marítimo of Sabinillas to be completed as soon as possible, primarily in those stretches where there are businesses for which the works are incompatible with being open to the public», and the newly created association states that «many families depend on their businesses; the rents and costs generated by any activity are not going to stop, and this will surely lead to the loss of jobs, which will add to the disastrous unemployment figure we have in the municipality».
ACHEAM also states that «we are seeing how, in the early stages of the works, shops and hospitality businesses that have been suffering the various restrictions due to the pandemic have had to close their premises, as the only customers coming in were the dust and noise generated by the works».
For all these reasons, the association considers it essential «that this work is not halted on Friday afternoons and resumed on Mondays; continuing it on public holidays and weekends would help reduce timescales and would therefore benefit the commercial sector of the Paseo Marítimo».
