A busy night last Monday on our beaches, where the chase of a narco boat began in Manilva and ended with the arrest of four people and the seizure of a total of 300 kilos of hashish, in an operation that lasted more than four hours.
The alarm was raised at around 20:00 last Monday when the Guardia Civil detected a suspicious vessel heading towards land in the area of Castillo de la Duquesa, in Manilva. A operation was quickly set up and it produced results.
In this first intervention, officers from the Guardia Civil foiled a drug drop-off. On the coast they seized the vehicle into which the drugs were being loaded and nine bales of hashish, containing 300 kilos of the narcotic substance. They also arrested one of the drug traffickers, while the others managed to escape in the boat, heading back out to sea.
A maritime chase then began, involving the Guardia Civil patrol boat. It followed the narco boat as far as the Guadalmina area, in Marbella, where it touched land again. It was 21:00 and a new operation was set up, involving Guardia Civil officers and National Police officers, in which another of the traffickers was arrested after jumping from the boat in an attempt to escape. According to sources, he put up strong resistance to his arrest, but was finally subdued and handcuffed.
Although it managed to get away from Guadalmina, the narco boat was spotted several hours later. At around midnight, the Guardia Civil intercepted the vessel in the vicinity of the port of Estepona.
The last two arrests in this operation took place there. Several Guardia Civil units took part, including the Órgano de Coordinación contra el Narcotráfico (OCON), the Narcotrafficking Coordination Body.
