The works begun a few months ago in the Puerto de la Duquesa have now been completed, specifically in Plaza Alta, Plaza Baja and the square on calle Los Arcos.

The squares have undergone a complete refurbishment, including the demolition of the existing planters and paving, a redistribution of the squares, waterproofing of the entire surface and the laying of ferrogres-type flooring.

These are the three busiest squares commercially, with the greatest number of people and visitors, as well as the residents who live around them.

These areas were already very run down with the passage of time and were causing damp problems for the commercial premises beneath them, so the work had become a priority. It sought to combine the commercial use of the restaurants with the free movement of pedestrians, in a tourist spot as important as the Puerto de la Duquesa, as explained by the councillor responsible for infrastructure and works, Diego José Jiménez.

The councillor also referred to other work carried out on the green corridor and on the staircase that leads from the port up to calle Manuel de Falla, which connects with the Castillo. According to Jiménez, the aim is to improve infrastructure while linking that district with this major tourist area.

For his part, the mayor of the town, Mario Jiménez, acknowledged the great work carried out this term by the infrastructure department, with many projects under way which, although disruptive while they are being carried out, ultimately produce results that are satisfactory for everyone.

In this case, he highlighted the support for tourism and for the businesses located in the area, something that must continue over time, since tourism is today the economic engine of the municipality.

Anyone passing through this area from now on will find greatly improved squares that are in keeping with an area that attracts so many tourists.
