This Saturday, 24 July, Manilva was left without electricity for more than 20 minutes, with thousands of telephone lines affected by the outage. It happened at the hottest time of the day, with all air conditioning units running at full capacity to combat the high temperatures, which reached almost 40 degrees in the municipality today.

Hospitality business owners, (once again) unable to take their orders, were among those worst affected. However, this time the outage was not caused by deficient infrastructure in the municipality. On this occasion, in addition to Andalucía, several areas of Spain have reported failures in their electricity network, including Catalunya, Madrid, Extremadura, Aragón and Navarra.

According to initial reports, the fault is believed to have been on a 400,000-volt very high voltage line belonging to Red Eléctrica Española.

Specifically, according to a statement from Red Eléctrica at 18:15, «an incident involving a seaplane caused a problem in the French very high voltage network, resulting in the temporary disconnection of the peninsula from the rest of Europe. The problem has now been resolved, with the interconnection restored and the affected electricity supply back to normal in our country».

In Cataluya alone, around 640,000 customers are reported to have been affected.
