Unemployment in Manilva fell again in May by 27 people who found work, 26 women and 1 man, leaving the local jobless figure at 895, of whom 344 are men and 551 are women, compared with 1,029 unemployed in the same month last year.
At provincial level, unemployment continues to fall significantly in Málaga as the tourism sector takes on workers for the high season. The province recorded a drop of 2,949 unemployed in May and now stands at a total of 112,572, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. It is the lowest unemployment level in the province for a month of May since 2008, when 102,274 were registered.
At regional level, registered unemployment at public employment service offices fell by 13,239 people in Andalusia in May compared with the previous month (-2.1%), to 605,864 unemployed, according to data published by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. With May’s fall, there have now been four consecutive months of decreases in unemployment in the region.
In Spain, the labour market passed a new ceiling in May, with a new all-time high of 21.8 million people working and registered on average with Social Security. In addition, registered unemployment finally fell below an important barrier for the first time in 17 years, 2.5 million unemployed people, a figure not seen since 2008. These are not the only milestones: in May, for the first time, there were more than 3.4 million self-employed workers, 10.3 million women registered with Social Security and three million foreign workers.
