Unemployment figures in Manilva have risen for the third consecutive month. Even so, the data is positive, as we would have to go back to 2008 to find better figures for Manilva in a month of October in terms of the number of unemployed, although the town’s population has grown significantly since then. Compared with recent years, October has almost always been a month in which unemployment rises. In total, October closes with 996 (+34) unemployed people in the town, of whom 383 (+7) are men and 613 (+27) are women.
At provincial level, October saw a rise of 2,274 unemployed in the province of Málaga, the largest increase in unemployment in the whole of Spain. The departure of workers from the services sector once the summer high season has ended is the main cause of the increase in unemployment, which rises for the second month running after the first uptick, recorded in September. The total number of unemployed in Málaga now stands at 119,906 people, which is nevertheless the lowest figure for that month since 2007, according to data published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.
At regional level, unemployment in Andalusia rose by 7,723 people in October compared with the previous month, bringing the figure to 654,777 unemployed in the region, and it remains below the 700,000 barrier for the eighth consecutive month, according to data published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. With the October rise, unemployment in the region has now increased for three months in a row.
In Spain, registered unemployment at public employment service offices rose by 26,769 people in October compared with the previous month (+1%), driven mainly by the services sector after the end of the tourist season, according to data published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy. After the October rise, the total number of unemployed stood at 2,602,054, the lowest figure for a month of October since 2007.
