The two perpetrators of the robbery of an elderly British man after staging an accident have been arrested in Manilva. The alleged accident took place in Estepona at the beginning of the year, when the 59-year-old woman arrested pretended to trip over the elderly man, knocking him to the ground. She and her accomplice, aged 54, took advantage of the situation to steal the 1,350 euros the victim was carrying in his pocket. The National Police have arrested the man and the woman, both of Romanian nationality, for an alleged offence of robbery with violence.
After realising what had happened and recovering from the fall, the man filed a report through the Telephone Reporting Office of the Directorate General of the Police, which offers assistance in several languages. He gave descriptions of his alleged attackers and of how they fled the scene in a blue vehicle, and reported that the 1,350€ had disappeared from his pocket.
The inquiries carried out by officers assigned to the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit of the Estepona Local Police Station focused on the route followed by the elderly man, on the suspicion that the alleged perpetrators had been watching him. In fact, when giving his statement, the victim recalled that a man and a woman had been observing him in a supermarket in the Bel-Air residential area. According to the investigation, the suspects followed the elderly man in a vehicle and approached him near his home.
