Only 273 people turned up today in response to the call from the Andalusian Health Service of the Junta de Andalucía, out of the 494 people summoned for the mass screening. This is equivalent to 55.2%, and among them 4 positive cases were detected, to whom the corresponding protocol has been applied.

The screening began at 10:00 and, although at first turnout seemed to be very good, it began to fall in mid-morning. The facility remained set up until 18:00, but turnout was low in its final hours.

The Town Hall, through the town’s mayor, has not hidden its disappointment. In posts on social media, the mayor said he would have liked the turnout figures to have been different, and thanked all those who did attend.

Residents have been complaining since this new screening was announced, with the news that no tests would be carried out on anyone who had not been summoned by SMS. The current backlog at the Sabinillas health centre, caused by work overload, is leading to long delays between patients detecting a possible infection and the test being carried out, which in some cases is reaching 10 days. For this reason, many people were interested in taking part in this screening, which would have reassured those who are waiting and, to a certain extent, eased the waiting list currently existing in the town.

We recall that on 25 November, the first screening in our town was held, where 457 people were summoned for an antigen test, with results given the same morning. Although it was announced that all the tests carried out were negative, the turnout figures were never made public, as has been done today. On that occasion, anyone who came along at the last minute without a summons was allowed to take the test.

THEFT OF THE VEHICLE DRIVER’S GPS

One of the unexpected protagonists of the day was the GPS of the «Covid lorry«. While this newsroom was talking to the driver on his arrival at the Plaza de los Maestros in Sabinillas to gather some information, an individual got into the cab and stole the GPS, valued at a little over 200€. The device is a special aid for this type of large vehicle, providing information such as narrow streets along which a lorry would not be able to pass.

This vehicle came from the screening carried out in previous days in La Línea de la Concepción and is the one being moved around the province of Cádiz to the municipalities where a higher incidence is detected.
