Tolls on the Autopista de la Costa del Sol, one of the most expensive motorways in the whole country, rise again with the arrival of the new year. The increase is linked to the CPI (consumer price index), but is capped at 4% in total because the Government is subsidising the concession holders, so that prices do not rise abruptly because of inflation but are instead raised gradually over several years.
The motorway connects our municipality with Málaga city on one side and with Guadiaro on the other, and has three toll points: at the exit or crossing at Manilva, in San Pedro Alcántara and in Calahonda. Travelling from Cádiz towards Málaga city, each toll becomes more expensive.
In addition, this motorway has two price bands: standard season and high season. The latter covers the months of June, July, August and September and the 17 days from the Friday before the start of Holy Week until the Sunday after Easter Sunday, both inclusive.
In standard season, the prices become the following:

This means that the full journey in standard season goes from €11.15 to €11.60, and in high season will go from €18.15 to €18.85.
We recall that on several occasions the municipal corporation has brought several proposals to the council meeting asking the different administrations to abolish the section between Manilva and Estepona, on the grounds that the only existing alternative is the A-7, the former N-340, a road with a high accident rate and congestion that is at the limit of its capacity and which, as it passes through the municipality of Manilva, has become a highly congested urban corridor. However, to date no progress on these requests is known.
The concession holder has the operating rights for this specific section (Manilva – Estepona) until 2054 and for the section between Estepona and Málaga until 2046.
