Manilva Town Hall wishes to inform, and above all to clarify, that the fact that Manilva’s coastline does not have any Blue Flags has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the water at our beaches, and even less with their cleanliness.

Comparisons with other beaches make no sense, as many particular details of each municipality’s coastline must be taken into account in order to draw conclusions based on the established criteria.

The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jimenez, stresses that the fact that the Blue Flag has not been awarded is due to an administrative procedure and not to the quality of the services provided in the town. The mayor pointed out the ecological, natural and urban beaches the municipality has, the latter being those that take part in obtaining this award. The mayor is satisfied with the services and hopes that, once the procedure for the concession of the Promenade with Costas and the Environment department of the Junta de Andalucía has been resolved, the Blue Flag will fly again at our beaches next year.

The councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, explained that the fact that the town’s beaches do not have this award is due to urban planning situations dating back years that the Town Hall is in the process of resolving, such as the concession for the promenade, which currently has an irregular planning status with Costas. With the redevelopment project currently being worked on, the Town Hall’s aim is to regularise this situation, which would also allow the renovation of such a necessary piece of infrastructure and resolve the problem of the Occupation of Maritime-Terrestrial Public Domain, which prevents there being Blue Flags in the town.

For her part, the councillor for Beaches, Eva Galindo, spoke in the same terms as her colleagues, stressing that in addition to the promenade, the Castillo is also in the same situation, and that the Town Hall «has been working for a long time to resolve everything, but we need the approval of Costas, which is ultimately the body that decides». Nevertheless, and despite the above, the councillor expressed her disappointment that Sabinillas beach has not received the Blue Flag, as they are aware of the Promenade project and know that work will begin shortly and, with it, the answer to the requirements for obtaining the award.

The Governing Team will continue taking steps to resolve these coastal conflicts that prevent Blue Flags from being awarded.
