The error in the choice of the new containers, which began to be installed in the town in October, has come to light following the «patch-up job» we began to see on some of them. So far we have not seen any photo of the Mayor or councillors next to them, as there were when they arrived, to explain this modification.
After the fiasco of the underground containers, which has meant the loss of hundreds of thousands of euros for various public administrations, and now, following the award of the cleaning service to a private company for 31 million euros, it seems that these new containers are not giving the expected results. Work has begun BY MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES, consisting of opening a new side entrance without a lid but with rubber strips to stop odours escaping.
A LONG JOB AHEAD
Angle grinder in hand, municipal workers have to cut the metal of each new container one by one to fit this accessory, which looks quite good and may improve the image we continued to see in many areas of the municipality, where people do not put their rubbish inside the containers.
A NEW ADDITIONAL COST?
The question is being asked in the street and residents are sending us various queries. We hope that the opposition, if there is one in this municipality, does its job and makes public this extra cost to the municipal coffers, on top of the 31 million euros for the privatisation of the service; whether municipal workers have been freed up to devote themselves exclusively to this task or whether it is being carried out as extra work outside their municipal hours.
