The Government Team has taken another step by voting in favour, at the council meeting, of the largest budget allocation for cleaning in the municipality’s history.
A 15-day period for submitting objections now begins and, if none are filed, everything is in place for the service to start in April.
This funding will cover the collection, transport and delivery of household waste. It will also cover waste collection from street markets, dead animals, bulky items, uncontrolled dumping, and waste from fairs and festivals. It will also include selective organic waste collection, in line with current regulatory and social requirements.
As for street cleaning, this involves work on roads, green areas, public spaces, pedestrian zones, pavements and kerbs across all public streets. This includes cleaning of stains, oils, grease, wax, chewing gum and more, as well as watering, scrubbing and hosing down of public streets.
Work will also be carried out around all the containers located on public roads and beaches as part of the Municipal Solid Waste Collection service.
Emergency cleaning will be carried out following exceptional situations such as debris washed down by rain, strong winds and the like.
The service will also cover the playgrounds of state schools, fixed outdoor exercise equipment (biohealthy) and children’s play areas located in urban public spaces and on beaches.
There will be an on-call service to respond to emergencies or carry out immediate action in a variety of situations, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
In general, awareness-raising campaigns, publicity and communication activities will also be carried out.
It is a very comprehensive reinforcement, considered essential given the size of the population of our municipality and the unusual layout of its districts, to which must be added the dozens of housing estates and communal areas.
