The Diputación de Málaga is funding 82.5% of this project, part of the Plan de Reactivación Económica Municipal (PREM), which will link calle Jimena in Manilva with calle Pedreta.

Provincial deputy Esperanza González met today in Manilva with the mayor, Mario Jiménez.

A pedestrian passage is to be created in Manilva to connect calle Jimena and calle Pedreta, allowing people to walk between the town centre and the viewpoint area without having to climb to the top of these streets or go down to calle Mar. The project has a four-month completion period and a budget of 180,000 euros, of which the Diputación is funding 148,500 euros.

The plot where the work will take place is currently occupied by a detached house that has been acquired in the public interest and will be demolished before work on the connection begins.

The project will benefit both residents of the Pedreta area and the Monte Viñas development, as well as visitors to the municipality, who will be able to move more easily between the town centre, where the shops are located, and the viewpoint area.

Given that the area is of great scenic interest, the connection between the two streets will be built as a series of flights of steps on several levels, with a viewpoint on each level. The stairs will be complemented by a panoramic lift as an accessible alternative. Along the route of the steps there will be planters with irrigation systems and with native vegetation able to withstand the local climate, where the levante (easterly) and poniente (westerly) winds prevail.

In addition, although it is not included in the project, there are plans to place a bronze statue in the viewpoint square in tribute to the muleteers who used to travel through this area.

Once the tendering process begins, work will get under way in mid-May and will bring a great improvement to the connections and access between these important streets in Manilva town.
