Manilva’s labour market saw a positive boost in March, coinciding with the arrival of good weather and the start of the tourist season. The municipality closed the month with a total of 942 unemployed people, a reduction of 29 compared with the previous month.
The fall was particularly significant among women, with 23 fewer unemployed (567 in total), while male unemployment fell by 6 people (375 in total). These figures also improve on the year-on-year comparison, standing below the 949 unemployed registered in March last year.
At provincial level, March saw a fall of 1,863 in the number of unemployed in the province of Málaga. By economic sector, the drop in unemployment in Málaga over March was driven mainly by the services sector, with 1,481 fewer unemployed than the previous month, followed by construction (-436), industry (-257) and agriculture (-35).
At regional level, across Andalucía as a whole, unemployment fell by 8,836 people in March (-1.5%), bringing the total number of unemployed to 579,638. In year-on-year terms, the fall is even more significant: 63,584 fewer unemployed, a decrease of 9.89%.
In Spain, unemployment fell by 0.9% (22,934 people) compared with February, to 2.42 million unemployed, the lowest figure for the third month of the year since 2008.
