Despite this being historically a very good month because of the seasonal nature of hiring in the town, this year the good figures seen in previous months have slowed in May, although unemployment continues to fall. Unemployment in Manilva continues to fall, with 6 fewer people out of work, bringing the figure down to 1,029, of whom 648 (+16) are women and 381 (-22) are men.
At provincial level, Málaga has recorded a new all-time employment record on the eve of summer, with figures expected to keep rising over the coming months of the tourist high season. Unemployment continues to fall significantly across the province of Málaga as the tourism sector takes on workers for the high season. The province has recorded a fall of 4,198 in the number of unemployed in May and now stands at a total of 122,784, according to figures from the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.
At regional level, unemployment fell by 2.3% in May in Andalucía, with 15,585 fewer people out of work, making it the region with the largest fall in absolute terms last month, followed by Catalonia (-6,248) and the Community of Madrid (-5,586). Andalucía ends May with 662,994 people unemployed, moving further away from the 700,000 mark.
In Spain, unemployment fell by 58,650 people in May, a drop of 2.2% in the month. This leaves the total number of unemployed at 2,607,850, the lowest May figure since 2008. It is the fourth consecutive monthly fall in unemployment. In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment rose in May 2024 by 4,485 people.
