On the sixth day of the transport strike, a lack of certain products is beginning to be noticed in some local supermarkets in Manilva, especially the large stores that have no distribution centres of their own in the area. Some dairy products and water are starting to run short, along with sunflower oil, owing to the war in Ukraine.

For example, Mercadona has told us it has only had a one-off problem with fresh milk; Supermercados El Jamón receives its own deliveries almost daily but is starting to have some difficulty meeting demand for milk; Lidl is only receiving deliveries of meat, fruit and vegetables, and its shelves of yoghurt, milk and water are already empty; Carrefour has reduced its deliveries of milk and water; and both Eroski and Día, located in Los Hidalgos, are for the moment not having supply problems for their customers.

One of the managers of these supermarkets has explained to this newsroom that they have detected a degree of alarm among the public over the situation, and that this is increasing the difficulty of meeting demand. Fearing they will run out of supplies, shoppers are doubling their shopping baskets, which upsets all the forecasts calculated for this time of year. Combined with delays in some lorry deliveries, this is leaving more shelves empty than usual.
