The town of San Luis de Sabinillas will once again be filled with a festive atmosphere for its traditional patron saint festivities in honour of San Luis, a celebration deeply rooted among local residents which each year turns the town’s streets and its seafront surroundings into a meeting point to enjoy music, community spirit and tradition. These festivities, organised by the Festivals Department, combine musical events and religious ceremonies in a programme that will take place on Saturday 22 and Tuesday 25 August, offering activities for all audiences and keeping alive one of the most representative celebrations of the summer in Sabinillas.
The sea and the seafront promenade once again become a privileged setting during these days, where the seafaring character of San Luis de Sabinillas adds a special charm to a festival that brings together families, residents and visitors every year.
Saturday 22 August: music to open the festivities The programme will begin with a musical performance from 22:30. The group Aguardiente will liven up the evening with a festive repertoire that will include music, rhythms and an atmosphere designed for enjoying the outdoors. The performance will open a festival that will once again fill the streets of the Sabinillas neighbourhood with joy.
Tuesday 25 August: tradition, procession and dancing The main day of the festivities will arrive on Tuesday 25 August with a busy day of activities starting early in the morning. At 08:00 the traditional reveille and street parade will take place, performed by the Charanga de Cádiz, which will wind through the streets, bringing a festive atmosphere to residents.
Games, skill and fun will come together this year, from 12:00, on Sabinillas beach, next to Bar “La Orilla”, where participants will have to show their skills in climbing the greasy pole to win the coveted prize. The organisers have also arranged prizes for the winners; this includes an event closely linked to the seafaring character of the town: the Cucañas “San Luis”.
The Festivals Department, headed by Rogelio Pascual, has prepared this activity, which will test the skill, agility and ability of participants to reach the prize placed at the top of the traditional pole.
The activity thus revives one of the traditional games linked to popular celebrations and the seafaring setting, offering a different spectacle for residents and visitors who come to the beach during the festive day.
In the evening, at 20:30, Holy Mass in honour of San Luis will be held, sung by the Choir of the Municipal Music School, one of the most moving events of this patron saint celebration. Once the religious ceremony ends, the eagerly awaited procession of San Luis will begin, travelling through the main streets of Sabinillas accompanied by the Municipal Music Band and by many residents who, as every year, will accompany the patron saint along the route.
The day will end once again with music and dancing. From 22:30, the duo Malacai will put the finishing touch to the festivities with a performance in Plaza Vicente Espinel, inviting residents and visitors to enjoy one last night of celebration. With this programme, San Luis de Sabinillas maintains a tradition that each summer strengthens the identity and community spirit of the town, uniting devotion, culture and entertainment in festivities where music and the seafaring atmosphere are once again the stars.
