The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) has announced this year’s Blue Flag awards, with Sabinillas beach and Puerto de la Duquesa both receiving the distinction.

It should be remembered, as Manilva Town Hall has consistently stressed, that neither the water quality nor the sand was the reason the Blue Flag was not awarded in previous years. The reasons were the regularisation of private homes and the seafront promenade. Thanks to the efforts of the Government Team and the decision to put forward a modern promenade project, in line with the characteristics required by the supramunicipal bodies, Manilva has once again been awarded the Blue Flag.

According to the mayor, Mario Jiménez, and the Beaches councillor, Eva Galindo, our coastline was extraordinary before and is now, but thanks to adapting the promenade to the Costas regulations, the Blue Flag is back. The water and sand, along with the facilities, are on a par with the best beaches in Spain, as confirmed by tour operators and the tourism sector, which highlights our destination as ideal.

Blue Flags are an award given by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches and marinas, and have been for more than 30 years (since 1987). After annual inspections and audits by ADEAC, they are granted to those municipalities that apply (as it is voluntary) and meet a series of criteria grouped into four areas: Environmental Information and Education, Water Quality, Environmental Management, and Safety and Services.
