The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the councillors for Institutional Relations, Francisco Miguel Álvarez, and for the Environment, Laura López, this afternoon received the new Delegate for the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, José Antonio Víquez Ruiz.
The meeting, focused on the Castillo de la Duquesa area, covered two main issues: the Town Hall’s notification of the ongoing processing of three beach bars in the area, and the regeneration of the beaches.
The Playa del Castillo Regeneration Project has become a priority for the Governing Team, as this is a long-standing problem to which every effort is being devoted in order to resolve it.
The municipal representatives conveyed to the delegate the pressing need to resolve it so that Castillo can at last recover its former appearance, when its beaches were a real attraction.
It should be remembered that one of the proposals is the installation of a natural reef, which would allow the regeneration of more than 10,000 square metres of urban beach in front of the Castillo Fortress Monument.
It would also involve removing the wall of great visual and environmental impact that the breakwaters represent and, above all, definitively safeguarding residents’ homes against the violent storms that periodically batter the neighbourhood and put their homes at risk.
The construction of this natural reef, some two hundred metres long and semi-submerged at a distance of one hundred metres from the coast, would be the first step towards the design and construction of a modern and functional seafront promenade running along the whole front of the urban area.
The meeting ended with Víquez’s complete willingness to take this important matter to the Junta de Andalucía, along with thanks for his visit, the first he has made to a municipality since taking up his new post.
