At around 17:00 this Sunday a forest fire broke out within the municipality, on the border with the municipality of San Roque. It was brought under control at around half past six in the evening, having burned some 7 hectares of scrub and low woodland.
August, a westerly wind, temperatures above 30 degrees and this year’s lack of rain had firefighters on maximum alert and ready to act at any moment, and so it proved. The extremely rapid response in the area and the number of personnel were remarkable, and gave the fire no respite. It was quickly surrounded by forest firefighters and up to 4 helicopters working at the scene, which did not let it advance.
A total of 55 forest firefighters, three operations technicians and an Environment officer were sent to the scene, according to Infoca in a message on its Twitter account.

In addition, a fire engine and four helicopters were deployed: a Kamov belonging to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (KZ-0), a Super Puma (KA-70) and two Bell 212s (MA-3 and MA-7).
The area where the fire started, very close to the motorway, near the Cepsa service area in Manilva, has no houses or residential complexes, so no residents or homes were at risk. However, the fire was heading towards the service station itself, which was left 700 metres away.
The Guardia Civil also stepped in quickly on the AP7, closing one lane in the direction of Algeciras, from where the forest firefighters attacked the flames.
