Every 8 June, World Oceans Day is celebrated around the globe, to remind everyone of the importance the oceans have in our daily lives, as they are vital lungs of our planet, an important source of food and a fundamental part of the biosphere.
Did you know that the ocean covers more than 70% of planet Earth, that it produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, that it is home to most of the Earth’s biodiversity and that it is the main source of protein for more than a billion people worldwide?
On this day, organised by the AMPA Oleaje (parents’ association) and full of educational activities that are fun at the same time, in collaboration with the Aula del Mar and the Education department of Manilva Town Hall, children will be able to enjoy:
- Presentation and reading of the book Julia y El Mar
- Exhibition table on marine biodiversity and the importance of its conservation.
- A basic walk along the nearest beach in search of treasure.
- A simulated stranding of a dolphin or sea turtle, in which the little ones taking part will feel like vets for a day.
The activity will take place on 10 June in the afternoon, from 17:00 to 20:00, at CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas on calle Maria Zambrano 2, at a cost of 3€ per participant and 1€ for AMPA members. All attendees are asked to come in comfortable clothes, with a cap and sun protection for the activities that will take place on the beach.
All participants will enjoy an afternoon snack and a few small gifts.
